Circus
JugglingJuggling involves keeping 2 or more objects in the air at a time by alternatively tossing and catching them. We use both colourful juggling balls and juggling scarves to teach students the fundamental skills behind juggling. This is a great class for students of all ages and develops hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
Hula Hoops
Most children (even big kids!) have tried to spin a hula hoop around their body at some point. It doesn’t just stop at the waist though. There are many different ways to spin a hoop, some much easier than around the waist. FunFit’s hoops are professional circus hoops which are an appropriate size and weight for young and older children to perform tricks quite easily. Spinning a hoop around your waist gives your abdominal muscles a great workout!
Twirling
Poi: Poi is an adaptation of the Maori Poi Dance in New Zealand where two balls of fire on lengths of cable are swung around the body to make beautiful flaming patterns. These graceful skills can also be practiced without fire and we do not teach or encourage students to twirl with fire. The students will learn using our practice poi and are introduced to different patterns they can make with poi, also having time to creatively explore their own patterns.
Staff: Staff twirling has a similar philosophy and movement style to poi except it is done using one or two rods with a flame at either end. Students will learn different ways of twirling the staff around their body and explore how they can move their body at the same time.
Again, we only use practice staff instead of fire staff. Both poi and staff twirling classes are fun and safe and excellent for developing co-ordination and creativity.
Acrobalance
An acrobalance class consists of working with a partner or group to form different shapes, supports and balances with the body. The class will work through simple balances on their own or with a partner before progressing to more difficult group balances, eg. Human pyramids, which look spectacular! This is our only non-individual activity and is fantastic for building fundamental life skills such as teamwork, trust and communication.
Diabolo
The diabolo originated in China over 4,000 years ago as a folk toy and was made from bamboo. A diabolo is in the shape of two cones joined at their points and is spun, thrown, caught and juggled using a string with a stick at each end. Now diabolo is practiced all over the world and is generally made from rubber or plastic and you can even play with a fire diabolo! Children love playing with these brightly coloured toys and develop fine motor skills, confidence and co-ordination as they spin, throw and catch the diabolo.
Clowning
Everyone loves clowning around, or at least watching others clown around! In this class students play drama games and learn about character development. Clowning is fantastic for letting your creativity flow and your individual personality come out and play. Students love this class as we give them permission to clown around for a short time! This is the perfect activity for developing creativity and confidence.
